A town portrait
Pößneck books, citizen spirit and industrial history
If anyone wanted to say what the town on the river Kotschau is like in just a few words, it would be easiest to say: town of letterpress in the heart of Thuringia, with some 13 000 inhabitants, over 100 societies and with the country's oldest indoor swimming pool, located in a wonderful countryside with a beautiful townscape, a strong economical structure and close to Germany's central motorways.
The printing of books has a long tradition in Pößneck. Around 1900, Europe's most significant trade journal publisher was located here. And today, so many books are printed here daily, that they - put together in one long row - would form a bookworm of 18 kilometres length.
